We already had one of the world’s first viral videos (a parody of an earlier viral video, appropriately enough), but we were well on our way to at least placing our toe in the exponentially-growing Internet video pool. In 2005 we started our webseries Inform Nation. Thinking that Richard Belzer’s to-be-unrealized “Comedy Express TV” channel would distribute us, we went forward with three more episodes at a time when webseries were barely a thing and when it took way too look to complete them. That said, I’m still proud of those, for the most part.

While Looking Forward continue to develop, unravel and become a number of not-a-film things (including a book), we created a couple of other Internet oddities (such as a film in which Conan O’Brien seduces a man dressed as a manatee) and became involved in an award-winning documentary about 9/11 that managed to steer away from conspiracy theory entirely, something I’m very proud of.

In 2008, I started another film - my own documentary - Lords of Soaptown, which is nearing completion at the moment. This got me and the company involved with a number of amazing interviewees, one of whom made it possible to write a pilot and a horror feature film for Jamie Kennedy. At the same time, I started writing my second book, a satirical history of the Internet.

StolenDress’s next big project came in the form of a podcast, which has given me the chance to talk to a number of my heroes and become closer to people I thought I knew through comedy. In 2012, Looking Forward was completed, wrapping up my longest project, which ended up being just as personal as it was ridiculous.

As we near completion on Lords of Soaptown, I wanted to thank all of the people who’ve given their precious time - including Ryan Penington, Ray Nowosielski, Ben Eshagpoor, Brett Schlank, Jen Smith and Dan Gomiller - and their money, in the case of Soaptown, for helping me realize my dream of making things that I find funny.

Here is a fun thing in which I got to participate! The very lovely Jason Klamm was kind enough to invite me onto his fantastic podcast Comedy on Vinyl where, normally, people way more funny and articulate than I am talk about their favorite comedy records. I wanted to talk about PFT so I picked Freak Wharf, since it’s a nice lead-in to the all the parts of Paul’s comedy that inspire me artistically (I talk about his podcast as well, and most of his artistic/comedic output, really).

Anyway, listen here if you want and tell me later if it sounds okay—there’s no WAY I can listen to this myself! Hahaha… heh… gulp

This week I sit down with the mahogany-voiced Eric Martin of the This American Wife podcast and Web Series.  It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite things, so it was exciting that Eric picked a Weird Al album we haven’t done before.  Apologies for the hot sound in advance, but I think it’s worth it.

This week I finally get to talk to one of my favorite character actors, Dan Bakkedahl, about one of his favorite albums – Rodney Dangerfield’s “Rappin’ Rodney.” I’d never heard it before, and was surprised at how well a strong set-up/punch routine still works. Sure, it’s dated, but it still works. Do yourself a favor and pull yourself out of the mindset that what you love now is the best. At one point, this was. And it was still old-timey then.

My favorite film of all time is Blazing saddles. In fact, there used to be a subway/bus poster for the film hanging where I now hang my LPs. There’s plenty around Fort Awesome Studios to indicate my love for this film and anyone who had anything to do with it. So, only a few months after getting to play Hedley Lamarr onstage, I was honored to speak with Andrew Bergman by phone from New York about my favorite film, which started from a kernel of an idea, turned into a novella that I desperately want to read, and became a classic, sparking off the career of my favorite director. I had a wonderful time, and Andrew was a super-classy, nice, insightful writer – everything you’d hope. Enjoy.

Mitch and Allen are back! This time, we’re discussing Adam Sandler’s They’re All Gonna Laugh at You! again. Enjoy!
